**Teaching and research interests:**

Mathematics Education: In particular, the attitudes towards teaching mathematics at school; stimulation and upgrading of school teachers; the problems students face in the transition from school to university mathematics.

Teaching: The Mathematics Tutorial Scheme has been of special interest to me as I have been involved since its formation. This has meant that a large proportion of my time has been devoted to first-year students, both lecturing to the first-year courses (in particular to large lecture groups) and assisting in the organising, day to day running and teaching in smaller tutorial classes. These classes consist of small groups of students selected because of their special needs.

For a number of years I have been interested and closely involved in the mathematics courses offered to the second- and third-year Engineering students. My involvement includes assisting in redesigning and restructuring the courses offered by the School of Mathematical Sciences to the second- and third-year Engineering students.
